Who buys these machines?
Individuals, couples, families, health enthusiasts, cooking professionals, wannabe chefs and foodies – anyone who wants the freshest, most nutrient-rich microgreens grown right in their own kitchen.
How long does it take to grow the plants?
It depends. Some plants such as radish and pea shoots take about a week. Others may take up to four weeks. You don’t need to wait the full growth duration before you harvest. Once harvested your microgreens are best used within 3 days to ensure the maximum nutritional value. They can be frozen.

What kind of soil do I need?
You can grow in traditional soil, however after trial and testing we have found the most successful growing occurs using Coco soil blocks or with our soil-less grow mat, depending on the type of plant. Please avoid using peat soil where possible as this releases a million tonnes of CO2 every year.

What if I know nothing about gardening?
No problem. This intelligent appliance does it all for you! Just plant your seeds, start the program and your Urban Cultivator will do the rest. We want you to get the most out of your investment, so we’ll be on hand every step of the way and here to talk in whatever way suits you best.
How big is this appliance?
The Urban Cultivator is 604mm in width – just like the size of a standard appliance, i.e. a dishwasher.
There is also the Urban Cultivator XL which is the size of a commercial fridge (1658mm) – perfect for larger kitchens and use in commercial spaces like restaurants.

Yes. As long as you plant seed types that require the same growing conditions you can sew two varieties in one tray. See our growing guide for more details.
How do I clean my Urban Cultivator?
Avoid any household or commercial cleaners on your Urban Cultivator. Remember you’re growing food so treat with care.
Can I use the Urban Cultivator outside?
No. Please don’t. This appliance won’t respond well to being placed in extreme temperatures. It’s best placed inside.

For instance, cabbage microgreens were found to have 40 times more vitamin E and six times more vitamin C than their mature counterparts, while coriander microgreens had three times more beta-carotene than the fully grown equivalent. In addition to vitamins E and C and beta-carotene, microgreens can contain vitamins A and K, antioxidants, not to mention small amounts of fibre and essential dietary minerals including iron, potassium and copper.
